Why we do the boring stuff
The public perception is that Saas business are cool; they work with new technologies, live with constant change, and everyone wears tee-shirts, shorts, and sneakers to work. That’s the public face and certainly true of Clicktools, but lift the hood of a real SaaS company and you’ll find a lot of robust systems, reliable engineering, and good old hard work. It’s what we call “the boring stuff.”
We have made our name on the back of our award-winning software that enables companies to collect, centralize, and act on customer feedback, leveraging the power of CRM. The software is at the core of what we do, but without other things, we could not have built the reliability, service, and dependability our customers expect.
Let me give you a few examples.
- Intense Security: Whilst they may not compare with that held by your bank or government, the data our customers collect is often commercially sensitive and includes some (limited) personal information. To ensure customers can trust us with their data, we place great importance on information security. We have invested heavily in both time and money to secure and maintain an independently audited accreditation against ISO27001, the international standard for information security. We do the boring stuff like password policies, staff screening, and information security training.
- Strong, Flexible Infrastructure: We employ professional hosting and disaster recovery specialists to provide a high-availability, robust infrastructure, recognising that the best app is useless if it is not available. From the start, we have put time and careful thought into the underlying architecture of Clicktools to ensure it can scale, providing the same high levels of response and availability as our business grows.
- Tracking and Reporting: This focus on doing the boring stuff extends into the application. We are alone in our field in providing end-to-end traceability of the feedback we integrate into your CRM system. We know that losing that one piece of feedback or a lead captured on a web form could make or break your business. That’s why we built a control panel that tracks and reports every data synchronization, telling you which have failed and why, and providing you with the information needed to fix it.
We do these things not because we like “the boring stuff” necessarily, but because it is an integral part of building a great app, smooth customer experience, and a sound business.
So, the next time you are looking for a SaaS solution, don’t just look at their cool culture, snazzy interface, and foosball tables (the last of which we don’t have at Clicktools, by the way). Instead, ask them how they do the boring stuff.
