Product Tips: Using Annotated URLs to Personalize Surveys
If you want to make your survey more personalized, Clicktools allows you the capability to automatically fill in certain answers using an annotated URL. This is done simply by adding parameters onto the end of the survey URL.
The first step to doing this is to make sure that the ‘Allow Answers on URL’ is set to ‘yes’ on a survey instance. Otherwise, the parameters will be ignored.
Next, you will need to add the following code to the end of the URL: &qn=? [where n is the question number and ? is the answer]. All question types can be pre-filled using this method.
This standard Clicktools functionality will enable you to:
- Pre-populate answers when you already know certain information (e.g. populating answers from Salesforce or ANY OTHER 3rd party tool with merge field capability such as ExactTarget, GOT, Vertical Response, PURE360, etc.).
- Run the same anonymous survey instance from two separate sources where you wish to track the source.
- Embed certain contact details in a survey response to create a snapshot of the contact when they completed the survey.
- Capture other types of dynamic information from a website such as the exact landing page where the user clicked on the feedback link.
You can also combine multiple examples of the above to answer more than one question.
