CUSTOMERS: Important change needed to your Custom URL configuration
Clicktools Customers, please be advised that if your organization uses one or more custom branded URLs for your Clicktools surveys, you will need to change the configuration of your cname alias for each Custom URL from www.clicktools.com to survey.clicktools.com. This will typically be managed by your DNS/web hosting provider.
You will need to change the target of your CNAME DNS record to reflect changes Clicktools is implementing in its server infrastructure.
For example, if your custom URL is feedback.example.com, then your CNAME DNS record will look like:
feedback.example.com IN CNAMEwww.clicktools.com
This will need to be changed to:
feedback.example.com IN CNAME survey.clicktools.com
You need to complete this change by the end of July 2014. After this time, the unchanged Custom URLs will not work. Surveys will still work, but they will revert to a Clicktools domain.
What is a Custom URL?
Custom URLs replace the clicktools.com part of the link, with your own domain name. For example, instead of www.clicktools.com in the browser address bar, you could have feedback.example.com. This gives you control over the branding of your surveys. There’s no charge to use Custom URLs in Clicktools and we would recommend that you have at least one in your account. See this Help article for details on how to set up a Custom URL.
How do I know if I have a Custom URL in my Clicktools account?
There are two ways to tell if your surveys are using a custom branded URL:
- Launch a survey and see if the web address shows “feedback.clicktools.com” or if it shows your company name such as “feedback.acme.com.” If it shows your company name, then you will need to update your cname alias according to the above instructions. This will typically be managed by your DNS/web hosting provider or possibly by your local IT team.
- If you have multiple custom URLs, you can go into the Survey Settings area in the Builder for a survey and see them listed there. There would be a drop-down menu item called “Survey URL” located directly below the Close Date option. When you click the drop-down, you will see your custom URLs listed there. Each of these will have a unique cname entry that will need to be updated.
